About me

I am a senior fellow and deputy director of the Center for Opportunity and Social Mobility at the American Enterprise Institute. Previously I was the staff director at the US Congress Joint Economic Committee, the executive director of the Comprehensive Income Dataset Project at the University of Chicago, and the chief economist at the Council of Economic Advisers in the Executive Office of the President. My research focuses on poverty, government policies targeting low-income Americans, income measurement, and homelessness. I obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. in economics and political science from Boston College.

My foremost commitment is to uphold the marriage covenant I made to my wife, which is to love her unconditionally for the rest of my life.
